London is home to almost countless attractions, from the historical to the modern. There is free admission on many of the top attractions so there is no better place to immerse your self in a rich history and culture. If you are interested in visiting or moving to London there is a list below of 10 attractions that should be at the top of your list.
1) The British Museum. The vast British Museum has exhibitions ranging through the history of mankind from the prehistoric to the modern with collections drawn from across the world. Some of its most famous artifacts include the Rosetta stone, the Portland Vase and sculptures from the Parthenon.
2) Tate Modern. Housed in a former power station beside the River Thames, the Tate Modern is the National museum of modern art. Its gallery displays works by Matisse and Picasso as well as contemporary work, exhibitions and vast installations.
3) The National Gallery. Home to the greatest collection of European painting in the world, the National Gallery is a must see. Some of the great masters on display include Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Turner, Cezanne and Van Gogh.
4) The Natural History Museum. From a life sized Blue Whale to a 40 million old spider and the famous dinosaur exhibition there is plenty for everyone to see at the Natural History Museum. Interactive displays and an earthquake simulator make it a fun family day out.
5) The London Eye. Now part of London’s famous skyline the London Eye, the world’s highest observation wheel, offers passengers incredible views over London and your chance to take in 55 of the most famous landmarks in just 30 minutes.
6) The Science Museum. Have your chance to see, touch and experience the biggest scientific advances in the past 300 years at the Science Museum, the largest of it kind in the world. There are 200 hands on exhibition, an IMAX cinema and virtual reality simulator plus so much more. The Science Museum brings this overlooked subject in to life in away that’s fun for kids and adults alike.
7) Victoria & Albert Museum. There are 3,000 years worth of artifacts from the worlds greatest cultures housed in the Victoria & Albert Museum which is a celebration of all things art and design. Some of the collections include ceramics, furniture, fashion, glass, jewellery, photographs, sculpture, textiles and paintings.
8) Madame Tussauds. This is your chance to rub shoulders with the most famous faces in the world. At Madame Tussauds why not meet Shakespeare or Brad Pit, perhaps you would prefer the Dali Lama or the Beatles or just maybe have that once in a life time audience with the Queen.
9) The Tower of London. Explore the 900 year history of one of the most famous fortified buildings in the world. Take a guided tour and let the knowledgeable and humorous beefeaters guide you through its long and colourful history. And while there why not take a look at some of the most famous jewels in the world as the Crown Jewels are also housed in the tower.
10) National Maritime Museum. Immerse yourself in the fascinating maritime history of Britain and the world at one of the greatest maritime museums there is. There are many fun and interactive exhibits and displays which are sure to keep you and the children entertained for many hours. Also a stones throw away is the Royal Observatory making Greenwich, a world heritage site, a nice change from central London.
