A Guide To Sheffield to experience the Great Outdoors


Sheffield is in south yorkshire that has an impressive population of 525,800. in recent years, Sheffield has been massively redeveloped & now has some beautiful futuristic structures, which contain the Millennium Galleries.

Unlike many enormous cities, sheffield has a diverse geography. it is placed at the confluence of five rivers & most of the city is built on hills with views of the city centre or out to the country side. with an estimated two million trees, Sheffield has more trees per person than any other european city. In fact, 61 per cent of the city is greenspace.

The Sheffield area has been occupied since the last ice age at least. inspite of the cost, it was throughout the 18th century with the arrival of the steelworks, that the city really grew. Indeed, the town was granted borough status in 1843 & granted city status in 1893.

In the early 1970s, many of the city's steelworks were closed thanks to international competition. even though this caused massive unemployment, Sheffield was later revitalised & its now a thriving, modern city that is well known for its music, excellent music & pretty park spaces.

You will find loads of fantastic things to do in Sheffield. In fact, the city boasts some fantastic museums & art galleries, which are worth visiting. These include the snazzy graves gallery, which has some wonderful work by artists including Cezanne, Turner & Sam taylor wood. It also hosts regular touring exhibitions.

Some other fantastic museums & art galleries are the Millennium Galleries and Bishops House.

Boasting meadowhall shopping mall & a great high-street, Sheffield is a wonderful place for shoppers. in fact, you'll find everything from kooky independent shops to famous names such as New Look & zavvi.

If you would rather explore the great outdoors, you'll be happy to know that Sheffield boasts two million trees, almost eighty parks & 10 council gardens. These are the ideal place to unwind & enjoy a relaxing picnic.

Sheffield is well-known for its nightlife, particularly its night clubs. in actual fact, the super club Gatecrasher began here. However, it has nightclubs that cater to other genres of music too, which contain many metal clubs.

As well as exciting nightclubs, Sheffield also boasts sometimes great wine bars and superb live music venues, so it really caters to every taste.

Sheffield has wonderful road links & can be easily reached from most massive uk cities. in addition to this, the city is well served by rail, with regular trains running from Sheffield railway station to a vast variety of destinations throughout great britain.

There's also an airport nearby, Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The airport is located 18 miles from the city centre & is mainly served by cheaper airlines, such as Thomsonfly.
